Personal Vehicle Use on Official Business FAQ
- What does the state’s insurance coverage include?
The state covers employee’s negligent acts when operating a vehicle within the scope of their employment. If an employee is at-fault, the state will only cover costs of repairs and bodily injury for the other party (third-party). The state will pay up to the limits of the Oklahoma Governmental Tort Claims Act.

- If I’m involved in an incident while driving my personal vehicle, does the state pay
for the damages to the other vehicle?
Yes, if you are at-fault in an accident, while you are in the scope of your duties (on official business), the state is responsible for property damages and bodily injury.
- If I’m involved in an incident while driving my personal vehicle, does the state pay
for the damages to my vehicle?
No, the State of Oklahoma cannot make repairs to your personal vehicle.

- What do I need to do to make sure my personal insurance will cover my vehicle damages?
Report to your personal insurance carrier the usage of your personal vehicle for business reasons to ensure that you have the proper coverage to repair your own vehicle.
This is not applicable to personal vehicle usage outside of Oklahoma.
